The smallest toilet in
Den Gamle By

Doll’s WC

On the first floor of the Toy Museum, you will find the smallest toilet in Den Gamle By. In the centre of the doll exhibition, the tiny WC forms part of a doll’s bathroom from around 1900. The bathroom was produced by the German toy manufacturer Märklin.

Educational toys

Around 1900, much children’s toys were miniature versions of objects from the adult world. By playing with them, children could practise roles from adult life. In earlier times, dollhouses were mainly decorative objects, but in the nineteenth century they increasingly became toys. In these small homes, great attention was paid to detail. Chamber pots and WCs were also part of the furnishings.

Dolls were also designed to resemble humans as closely as possible. Around 1900, a German doll manufacturer even produced a doll that could urinate.

Naturally, there is also a chamber pot under the doll’s bed.
