Visit Den Gamle By’s plant collection, and buy heritage house plants to take home
The Market Nursery was established as a commercial nursery in the 1880s. Here, the museum’s gardeners breed the house plants that could be found on the windowsills back then, and which can now be seen in the buildings in Den Gamle By. Here, both vegetables and summer flowers are also cultivated.
Den Gamle By’s plant collection
The Show Greenhouse dates back to about 1850, and comes from Bernstorff Manor, north of Copenhagen. Greenhouses like this were used to display the plant collections of the time. This is also where we have the museum’s collection of historical potted plants. Several of our plants have been nurtured for more than 100 years, and have thus survived several generations of previous owners.
Buy heritage house plants for your windowsills
During the summer and in the run-up to Christmas, we sell plants from the nursery. Here, you can buy small plants from the museum’s plant collection, honey from the nursery’s beehives and seeds from Den Gamle By’s gardens.
