Nowhere else in the world can you see such a wide-ranging collection of classic Danish jewellery from the 20th century as in Den Gamle By.
100 years of Danish jewellery
The Jewellery Box exhibits 1,000 pieces of Danish silver jewellery from 1900 to 2000. Earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooches, hatpins, shoe buckles and buttons. Each piece of jewellery is a small work of art in its own right which characterises the special Danish style – simple, functional and with a focus on light and reflection. Jewellery that made Denmark and the Danish art industry known worldwide.
Danish silversmiths and designers
Well-known Danish silversmiths and designers are represented in the exhibition, among others Georg Jensen, Mogens Ballin, Kay Bojesen, Nanna Ditzel, Bent Exner, Henning Koppel, Svend Weihrauch and Thorvald Bindesbøll.
The Jewellery Box can be found below ground level in the 1974 neighbourhood. There is an entrance from the pedestrian street.
