12 - 20 October and the weekend of 26 - 27 October

Did you spot something in the dark? Was it a mouse, a shadow or the mare getting ready for her nightly ride?
When autumn arrives, the nights get longer and darker and the shadows come alive in the flickering light.

Take the kids on a scavenger hunt through houses and streets and explore folklore customs and stories for Allhallowtide in Den Gamle By.

Follow the Shadow Trail

Shadowland

Once you've found all the Shadow Trail clues, you'll arrive in Shadowland, home of Doubt and Delusion. Here, Gerda Ghost whispers in your ear while Linda Lindorm waits to be fed.

Turnip lanterns

Cut your own turnip lanterns in the tent at Shadowland. The tradition of carving spooky turnip lanterns in autumn can be traced back to the latter half of the 19th century. Price DKK 40.

Fairy tales and folklore

In The Eilschou Almshouses, the vicar’s widow tells you a Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale about the Elf Mound. She doesn't believe in elves and the forces of nature, but the shoemaker’s wife in the shoemaker's home does. Maybe you can entice her to show you her secret helper.

The Merchant's House

The kitchen maid and the yard hand tell stories that will make the hairs on your neck stand up. In the store, the Merchant is ready to sell you wares.

The potato holiday

Did you know that the autumn half-term holiday is also known as the potato holiday in Denmark? Around the town, you can try different potato dishes at the eateries.
